Phalaenopsis and More

Phalaenopsis sumatrana (Synonym zebrina)

Phalaenopsis sumatrana is a medium sized plant with mildly fragrant flowers borne on long, arching inflorescences. The background colour is highly variable, with different plants having flowers either white, pale yellow, pale green or even wine-red, with transverse brown barrings on petals and sepals and a white lip with purple markings.

Plants sold as Phalaenopsis zebrina have white background flowers, and the overall flower size is smaller than those sold as Phalaenopsis sumatrana. They are found in Palawan.

The species is found in Burma, Thailand, peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.

Plants provided as flowering size in an 8 cm pot.
