Bulbophyllum rothschildianum

Bulbophyllum rothschildianum is a small to medium sized plant. The pseudobulbs are about 4cm tall, well spaced in the rhizome, and with a single leaf that grows to 20 cm long. It produces basal inflorescences of about 20 cm, with large (12 to 15 cm) flowers, dark red in color, fragrant, arragned in an umbel.

Bulbophyllum rothschildianum is nate to Yunnan Province (China); Sikkim Region (India); Assam and Myanmar, where it grows on the trunks of lowland forest trees at elevations of up to 300 m.

Grow this plants in bright light, short of burning the leaves, to encourage better flowering; intermediate temperatures and frequent watering during the growing period, allowing for a dry-cool rest period of 1 or 2 months in winter.

Plants provided as flowering size divisions with three or 4 pseudobulbs in a shallow pot.
